Problem

Smallholder poultry farmers are the backbone of agriculture and food security of Bangladesh as they produce over 75% of annual poultry food consumed. But 80% of them live below USD 1.5 per day due to low income and decreased annual yield caused by high cost of poultry feeds which faces 8% increase in costs annually. Such unresolved root cause puts millions of families at risk for poverty & malnutrition—the world’s most serious health problem & the single biggest contributor to child mortality. Besides, due to limited resource, Poor management of waste has become the cliché for ever-increasing environment contaminations and health safety in Bangladesh.

The current solution for the raw materials of poultry feed:
Wheat and maize together constitute over half of the poultry feed, of which over 80% is centered on maize and less than 20% of wheat. Although the use of wheat and maize for poultry feed is increasing rapidly in developing countries, in general, this has not yet reach a significant proportion in Bangladesh. Domestic production of wheat and maize meet 20% of the demand by poultry feed producers. Besides, domestic wheat and maize are available in before the onset of winter rainy season and winter season respectively of the year, whereas demand for wheat and maize by poultry farmer remains throughout the year. So the demand for poultry feed is met only from import, at seemingly relative higher cost.
